How TrustCite collects, uses, and protects your personal information

2026/08/01

Introduction

Your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains how TrustCite ("we", "us", or "our") at trustcite.com collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our services.

Information We Collect

We collect the following types of information:

  • Personal Information: Name, email address, and payment details you provide when creating an account or making a purchase.
  • Usage Data: Information about how you interact with our platform, including citation queries submitted, verification results, and feature usage.
  • Cookies: We use cookies to collect non-personal data to improve your experience. See our Cookie Policy for details.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the purpose of:

  • Processing your citation verification and literature search requests
  • Managing your account and credits
  • Improving and maintaining our services
  • Communicating with you about service updates and changes
  • Ensuring platform security and preventing abuse

Third-Party Sharing

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We may share limited data with:

  • Payment processors to handle transactions securely
  • Academic databases (Crossref, OpenAlex, PubMed, arXiv) as necessary to perform citation verification queries
  • Hosting and infrastructure providers to operate our platform

Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.

Your Data Rights

You have control over the personal information we hold about you:

  • Access your data: The name, email address, and avatar on your account are visible at any time under Settings → Profile. If you want a copy of the other data associated with your account, such as your verification and search history or your credit records, email us and we will provide it.
  • Correct your data: You can update your name and avatar yourself under Settings → Profile. To change your account email address or correct any other information, email us and we will handle it for you.
  • Delete your data: You can delete your account at any time under Settings → Security. Deleting your account removes your profile information and your verification and search history from our systems. Records we are legally required to keep, such as payment and tax records, are retained for as long as the applicable law requires.
  • Withdraw consent to marketing: You can unsubscribe from our newsletter at any time under Settings → Notifications, or through the unsubscribe link in any newsletter email. We will still send essential account emails, such as payment receipts and password resets, because these are necessary to provide the service.
  • Object or restrict: If you object to a particular use of your data or want us to limit how we process it, email us describing your concern and we will review it.

To exercise any of these rights, email us at [email protected] from the address registered to your account. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request, to make sure we are not disclosing your data to someone else. We do not charge a fee for these requests, and we will not restrict or downgrade your service because you made one.

If you are located in a region whose laws grant you additional rights over your personal data, those rights also apply to you. Contact us and we will honor them.

Children's Privacy

We do not knowingly collect any data from children under the age of 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the updated policy on this page and updating the effective date.
